Orlando, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2021) Five physical therapists from Nemours Children’s Health recently teamed up with UCF Go Baby Go to build two adaptive toy cars for children with mobility impairments. The cars will help the children navigate the world in a new way that was not accessible to them before.
The event was made possible thanks to a generous donation from Variety the Children’s Charity of Florida. The organization funded the cars and the equipment needed to make the necessary modifications that increase its usability for the children based on their unique needs.
“This was our first build event with Nemours, and we are so excited to have their physical therapists volunteer with us and become more involved in connecting their patients to Go Baby Go,” said Jennifer Tucker, director of UCF Go Baby Go. “We have a shared commitment to increasing mobility in children with developmental disabilities, and this build was a great way to introduce them to the profound impact these little cars can have on the lives of children.”
Both children are currently receiving physical therapy from the rehabilitation team at Nemours Children’s Health.
UCF Go Baby Go has been innovating low-tech, low-cost mobility solutions for children since 2015. The program is run by the UCF Physical Therapy program and aims to restore physical independence for children with disabilities. Learn more at healthprofessions.ucf.edu/gobabygo.
