Orlando, Fla. (June 15, 2021) – At a special ceremony, Nemours Children’s Hospital officially welcomed its third class of physicians in training to this three-year residency program. Long white coats were given to each member of the class of 12, recruited by Nemours from around the country. They join two groups of upperclassmen currently engaged in exceptional training in patient care, advocacy, research, evidence-based medicine and population health.
The new class includes individuals whose broad experiences range from being homeless to being president of their medical school class, to serving as a Green Beret.

In addition to robust clinical exposure and patient care, resident education includes simulation based procedural experience and research opportunities with a focus on patient quality and safety, according to Dr. Heather Fagan, interim chief of pediatrics and an award-winning medical educator who developed the graduate medical education infrastructure at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
“It is exciting to see this program advance to the point where Nemours Children’s Hospital has both mentors and mentees among the residents,” said Dr. Fagan. Under Dr. Fagan’s leadership, the hospital was granted institutional accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2016.
