Orthopedic Care for Children in Florida's Panhandle Is Enhanced with the Onboarding of Dr. T. Cooper Wilson, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

PENSACOLA, FL (March 23, 2021) – Children in Florida’s Panhandle with disorders and injuries involving the bones, joints, muscles, and nerves will benefit from Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Pensacola’s newest addition. Thomas Cooper Wilson, M.D. has joined the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics at Nemours, providing evaluation and treatment for a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions, from bone fractures to complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Wilson joins the Division of Orthopedics with Division Chief, Dr. Richard Reynolds, Dr. Laura Shaffer, Dr. Eric Shirley, Jessica Sinco, PA-C and Brian Kisner, PA-C.

“During medical school I gravitated towards orthopedics, specifically spine disorders. I am well versed in Mehta casting, so I am excited to be bringing this technique to the Panhandle,” said Dr. Wilson. “I am trained in Orthopedics and Pediatrics, however, the joy of helping children and their parents/family is beyond anything that I can imagine. Getting to help kids get back to playing and doing what they do best, being kids, is the biggest rewards of the job,” he continued.

The Orthopedics team at Nemours strives to offer personalized and compassionate medical care to the patient families they serve daily. For over 20 years, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care has been committed to meeting the individual needs of every child and family by providing the best environment for each patient's medical, developmental, and emotional well-being. Dr. Wilson will prioritize early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management for a variety of orthopedic spine disorders including curvatures of the spine caused by scoliosis and kyphosis.

“Nemours has a goal of taking care of the health of the children and family and the staff. It is a fun place to be as well as a place to practice great medicine and to make a difference in the lives of the children/families of the Panhandle. I grew up not too far from here, so its home to me,” said Dr. Wilson.

Dr. Wilson received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL. He completed a combined residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of South Florida. Dr. Wilson continued his training with a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the University of Utah.

Dr. Wilson as has served on various committees and leadership positions, including an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, and an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wilson is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, pediatric Subspecialty. When he is not working, he enjoys traveling and has been multiple places around the world, he enjoys immersing himself in other cultures and taking in the sights and experiences.
