ICYMI: Fun and frolic at THE PLAYERS Championship YOUTH DAYS sponsored by Nemours Children's Health System

Jacksonville, Fla. (March 12, 2021) -- Earlier this week, children attending THE PLAYERS Championship were treated to YOUTH DAYS sponsored by Nemours Children's Health System. A Scavenger Hunt with 12 Nemours Gold Squad cutout kids placed around the course challenges children and teens to engage in activities including stretching exercises, playing catch and a having fun with a hula-hoop. When participants complete the challenges and take a selfie with the cutouts, they will win prizes at the Nemours booth in THE PLAYERS Welcome Experience.

With a mission to promote the healthiest generations of children, Nemours Children's Health System was selected as Charity of the Day of THE PLAYERS Championship for March 10.

"Nemours is proud to bring its national caliber expertise and resources to this region," said Nemours CEO Dr. R. Lawrence Moss. "That means when your child's pediatrician recommends seeing a specialist, for anything from acute illness to cancer care, Nemours will be there to provide world-class specialized care. Nemours goal is to create the healthiest generations of children across our country."

Nemours sponsored  YOUTH DAYS Presented By Nemours Children’s Health System which allowed up to two youth, ages 15 and under, to be admitted free with a ticketed adult on Tuesday and Wednesday of the tournament.

Also this year, given the pandemic, THE PLAYERS features Nemours Virtual Kids Zone at THE PLAYERS Championship. Kids abd their families are encouraged to visit https://www.theplayers.com/virtual-kids-zone.html and tag @Nemours and @THEPLAYERSChamp as they participate in these virtual activities during the week of the PGA TOUR's flagship event.

During the events, Nemours recognized a few of its patients during special moments.

Christian Blyden, 13, was diagnosed with hemophilia as an infant, and as a result, he cannot play contact sports, like his peers. His stepdad suggested he try golf, and it has given him a good outlet for his anxiety. His family put a putting green in the backyard and noticed how Christian’s confidence grew. He loves the game and now has many friends through his local golf club in Pensacola. Christian and his family travel to Nemours Children’s Specialty Care in Jacksonville every three months to receive blood transfusions. Christian was selected by Dreams Come True to have a special meeting with his favorite golfer, Dustin Johnson, who is competing at THE PLAYERS.

Norah Sproules, age 9, sees a number of specialists at Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville. In fact, even with the best multiple-appointment scheduling, Norah and her mom, Megan, are at Nemours 30 times or more per year. In keeping with Nemours’ approach to integrate patients and families in designing new spaces, Norah and her mom provided feedback and ideas that were incorporated in the new renovations at THE PLAYERS LOBBY at Nemours Specialty Care, Jacksonville, which were made possible thanks to a lead gift of $500,000 from THE PLAYERS.

Video and photos of Norah at the Scavenger Hunt are available.
