Wilmington, DE – On October 7 & 8, 2020, the Help Our Kids Radiothon marked its 10th year. This year looked very different, going virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the goals and outcome remained the same, benefitting the patients and families we serve at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. For two days, Forever Media radio stations shared with their listeners stories of hope, courage, and compassion from Nemours patients, patient families, and clinicians.
Donations came steadily throughout the two-day event via a virtual phone bank and online giving. As the clock hit 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, the total was announced: $225,003, but contributions are still being accepted online. Since 2011, the event has raised nearly $3-million dollars.
One hundred percent of all money donated will go to Child Life, Palliative Care, Pastoral Care, and Integrative Medicine, all of which support the patients care, and their siblings, at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
“Programs such as Child Life, Palliative Care, Integrative Medicine, and Pastoral Care provide important and impactful services to any and all patients who come through our doors, explains Jennifer Sciolla, MS, CTRS, CCLS, Senior Director of Child and Family Services. “The money raised through the Help Our Kids Radiothon ensures we can continue to provide these much needed services, providing comfort, helping alleviate pain and stress, and allowing kids to be kids while they are in our care.”
Forever Media radio stations that participated this year included: WDEL 101.7 FM, WSTW 93.7 FM, Eagle 97.7 FM, WXCY 103.7 FM, WCHK 101.3 FM, and Delaware 105.9 FM. Nemours associates and community members shared their valuable time to make the virtual Radiothon possible. An overview of the Help Our Kids Radiothon, including sponsors and our Ambassador, Jessica and Delaney’s, stories are online at www.nemours.org/radiothon.
“Going virtual this year certainly added some challenges for everyone involved. But despite the pandemic, our community once again showed their love and appreciation for Nemours,” says Becky Phillips, Partnership Development, Nemours Fund for Children’s Health. “The success of Radiothon comes from the support of every associate in our hospital, all of our community partners, and our radio sponsor Forever Media. But most importantly, it’s the bravery and willingness of our patients and their families, who are incredible advocates of Nemours, sharing their stories to help kids just like them.”
