Nemours Celebrates the Opening of the clubhouse
Child Life & Creative Arts Therapy has a beautiful new space for patients and families.

Wilmington, DE – On August 23, 2018, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children celebrated the grand opening of the clubhouse, a space for patients and their families to escape, if just for a short time, what they are going though at the hospital. Run by the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy team, the clubhouse is a beautiful, spacious area where kids can play, create, imagine, and just be kids. This project was made possible by local donors, who contributed nearly $3 million to make the vision a reality.

Key Facts

  • The new clubhouse is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This means families can come do crafts, play games, check out the Flyers air hockey table, the pool table, and so much more on their own schedule. (Some areas are locked for patient safety when a staff member is not present.)
  • A separate sensory room for children who have individual developmental needs, such as Autism
  • A dramatic play space
  • A full kitchen
  • A Closed Circuit TV Studio, which allows the team to broadcast programming so that patients who cannot leave their room can still be entertained by special guests or take part in games.
