ORLANDO, Fla. (June 6, 2023) Pediatric otolaryngologist Adele Evans, MD, FAAP, who specializes in tracheostomy safety, has been named Chief of Otolaryngology for Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. Evans previously served as Louisiana State University School of Medicine Director of the Safe Trach Program, and oversaw the Trach Clinic at Children’s Hospital there.
In her new role, Dr. Evans will lead a team of skilled specialists and surgeons and provide comprehensive ear, nose and throat (ENT) care to pediatric patients. She also will help build on to the success of the recently launched Nemours Ear, Hearing & Communications Center, which offers comprehensive ear care and surgical treatment.

Dr. Evans received her medical degree at Emory University after attending University of Florida College of Medicine’s post baccalaureate program. Following a General Surgery internship at Harvard University’s Beth Israel – Deaconness Medical Center, she completed an otolaryngology head and neck surgery residency at Harvard University’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She subsequently did her pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
While working at Wake Forest University, Dr. Evans developed the Medicine and Law program for the entire medical school through its graduate medical education program. Dr. Evans developed a technique for hand-crafting a customized bifurcated endotracheal tube. Additionally, Dr. Evans worked extensively to develop the Children’s Hospital New Orleans pediatric cochlear implant progress, encompassing attentive long-term care to help families through the challenges created by the late start to education inherent in congenital hearing loss.
Her research interests involve improving the care and outcomes for infants diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and pulmonary hypertension, improving tracheostomy outcomes in pediatric health, and immunomodulation that reduces middle ear and sinus disease in pediatric cases.
“In addition to treating children, a lot of what we do is help families heal,” said Dr. Evans, whose parents work in the medical field. “We are advancing how we can help treat medical issues and prevent disease for our young patients, and I think that the future is also to model a change in the expectations in healthcare that have become distant for the adult patients, and bring a focus on the humanity within this privileged work we do.” Given the stressors in contemporary life, pediatricians are often able to promote better health for the entire family, she added.
Dr. Evans and her husband, Dr. Michael Brumund, who also recently joined Nemours in cardiology, are relocating to the Lake Nona area.
