Nemours Children’s Health Hires Pediatric Cardiologist Specializing in Pulmonary Hypertension

Orlando, Fla. (March 30, 2023) Nemours Children’s Health has hired Joseph Kuruvilla, DO, FAAP, a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in treating pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Kuruvilla previously worked at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he served as Director of Pulmonary Hypertension and Associate Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Kuruvilla will see patients at Winter Garden and Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida.

“Pulmonary hypertension in children can be idiopathic, or develop as a result of congenital heart defects, which may be present at birth or inherited,” said Gul Dadlani, MD, Chief of Cardiology at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. “Adding Dr. Kuruvilla to the team of specialists here ensures that patients needing this care can get diagnosed and treated early.”

“Taking care of children who have pulmonary hypertension has been my great privilege.  With new advance in therapies, we have the opportunity in partnering with families to make a profound impact in the longevity and quality of lives of children,” explained Dr. Kuruvilla.  “Nemours Children’s provides the depth necessary to treat our patients with pulmonary hypertension with the comprehensive care that they need and deserve.”

Dr. Kuruvilla did his pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia followed by cardiology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. He afterwards received additional training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Pulmonary Hypertension.  Throughout his career, he has found ways to give back and train the next generation of physicians, teaching and working with cardiology fellows, pediatric residents and medical students.  He additionally enjoys working with the underserved by participating in international medical missions.

He cherishes the time spent with his wife and three daughters.  He spends his free time playing guitar and deep sea fishing.
