Nemours Children’s Health Names Russell Cross, MD, as Delaware Cardiology Program Outreach Director

Wilmington, Del. (March 15, 2023) – Nemours Children’s Health has named board certified pediatric cardiologist Russell Cross, MD, as Delaware Cardiology Program Outreach Medical Director. In this role, Dr. Cross will treat cardiology patients at Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center, and Nemours Children’s Milford and Wilmington locations, while growing the network of cardiac subspecialties Nemours serves in Southern Delaware.

Dr. Cross is a nationally recognized expert in advanced imaging for cardiac patients with more than two decades of experience. Prior to joining Nemours, Dr. Cross served as an attending pediatric cardiologist at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he supervised inpatient cardiology, cardiac MRI/CT, and quality and outcome programs, and as Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine..

“With the addition of Dr. Cross to the cardiology team, Nemours Children’s Health will expand opportunities for families to seek excellent subspecialty care closer to where they live,” said Shubhika Srivastava, MD, Chief of Cardiology and Co-Director of Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center.  “Our specialists are dedicated experts in early accurate diagnosis – fetus through adult, complex care , transplant and interventional and electrophysiology procedures.”

Dr. Cross earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical School. He soon realized that his interest was in clinical care, and returned to UT Southwestern Medical School to earn his medical degree, followed by a residency in pediatrics at UT Medical School at Houston.

“My rotation in general pediatrics began with pediatric cardiology, and I instantly knew this is what I wanted to do,” said Dr. Cross. “At Nemours, I am looking forward to reaching more and more families and finding ways to provide state-of-the-art subspecialty outpatient care in smaller communities, not just larger cities.”

Dr. Cross has published numerous articles in medical journals on congenital heart disease, cardiac echocardiography, findings of SARS CoV-3 associated multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), X-ray fused MRI guidance of transcatheter interventions, and cardiac MRI to advance care of patients with congenital and acquired pediatric heart disease.
