JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2025) – Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville today announced Katherine Twombley, MD, FAAP, FAST, as Chair of the Pediatrics department. A distinguished nephrologist with a strong background in research and education, Dr. Twombley brings an exemplary standard of clinical excellence and academic rigor to Nemours Children’s.

In this role, Dr. Twombley will collaborate across departments to focus on clinical outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement in quality and safety. She will also help set the strategic direction to promote clinical growth and partnerships throughout the area.
Dr. Twombley earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She completed her internship at Miami Children’s Hospital, now known as Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. At MUSC, she served as professor with tenure and Chief of Nephrology in the College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. She has held leadership roles that have fostered innovation in pediatric care delivery and enhanced access to care for patient families.
Her commitment to children’s health is evident in her nationally recognized expertise and numerous achievements, including establishing the first and only pediatric nephrology fellowship in South Carolina. She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology.
