JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – June 24, 2022 – Nemours Children’s Health, one of the nation’s largest pediatric health systems, today applauded Congressional passage of the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act”. The legislative package was drafted to help make children safer from gun violence by including provisions for mental health services, school safety, and other reforms.

The Children’s Hospital Association (CHA), which represents more than 220 children's hospitals across the country, endorsed the bill and supports its passage.

“Gun violence is a public health crisis for our children and their families,” said the CHA in a statement. “On the frontlines of pediatric emergency care, children’s hospitals treat children and teens as they heal from the physical and emotional wounds of gun violence.”

“Nemours Children’s is committed to working well beyond medicine, focusing on social determinants of health – including gun violence – and we’re encouraged by today’s passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” said R. Lawrence Moss, MD, FACS, FAAP, President & CEO of Nemours Children’s Health. “We believe that investing in children’s health is the single most powerful means to ensure the healthiest generations of children and a better future for our country.
