Day of Giving Events Raise over $240,000 for Nemours Compassionate Care Fund
Dollars raised support children in need of critical treatment and care

Jacksonville, Fla. (June 9, 2022) – Nemours Children’s Health recently hosted Day of Giving events in partnership with local television stations in Jacksonville and Orlando. The events, presented by VyStar Credit Union, raised $241,971 to support the Nemours Children’s Compassionate Care Fund, which directly supports critically ill and injured children and their families.

In partnership with WJXT, Nemours Children’s hosted Day of Giving in Jacksonville on April 11, 2022. Throughout the day, patient families, doctors and community partners were highlighted on air. Viewers saw patients such as Reign, 7, and her mother, Elicia, who shared stories of the excellent care and support they receive for Reign’s sickle cell disease. “Nemours is my family. Nemours is really special to me,” Elicia said.

TV viewers also picked up their phones to make a difference for children and families battling life-threatening illnesses. Presenting sponsor, VyStar Credit Union, along with Tijuana Flats and the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation supported the event by answering phones and matching the donations of generous callers. The incredible participation of the community and the support from these companies raised over $135,000 in Jacksonville.

Chad Meadows, the Executive Vice President and COO of VyStar Credit Union shared, “Our commitment is to do good and lead by example, and what better way to do that than to partner with Nemours Children’s to help the children in Greater Jacksonville get the care they need.”

On April 25, 2022, the partnership with Vystar Credit Union made it possible for Nemours Children’s to host its inaugural Day of Giving event in Orlando on WKMG. Health reporter and anchor Kirstin O’Connor showcased three patient families who praised the excellent care they received at Nemours Children’s. Donations from WKMG viewers were again matched by Presenting Sponsor, VyStar Credit Union and Tijuana Flats as well as Cars and Coffee Central Florida. Throughout the day, WKMG viewers and corporate partners contributed $106,125 to the Nemours Children’s Compassionate Care Fund.

Joseph, the father of Ines, a 14-year-old cerebral palsy patient, spoke about the importance of having extra assistance during their medical journey.  “You only want what’s best for your kid, if she walks or if she doesn’t – I’m happy she’s happy,” Joseph stated.

Thanks to events like Day of Giving, Nemours Children’s Health, Florida has provided critical care and support to children and their families for more than 30 years, with nearly half a million patients receiving care in Florida annually.
