Orlando, Fla. (April 4, 2022) – Nemours Children’s Health has announced a new addition to its renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon roster, Joseph G. Khoury, MD. Dr. Khoury was previously with Shriners Children’s Florida, which is closing after 35 years in the Tampa Bay area. At Shriners Children’s, Dr. Khoury served as medical director for the Motion Analysis Center.

Beginning in April, Dr. Khoury will be treating patients with cerebral palsy, hip, foot/ankle, spine and general orthopedic problems at Lakeland Regional Hospital, a partner with Nemours for pediatrics, as well as at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. In Lakeland, Nemours is adding new doctors and physicians assistants to treat orthopedic pediatric patients.

“Recruiting an orthopedic specialist like Dr. Khoury means Nemours can offer even more pediatric expertise for patients that have growing bones,” said John Lovejoy, MD, who leads Nemours Children’s Health and Sports Medicine Center. “Dr. Khoury shares our passion to improve the surgical outcomes for young patients, and get them back to living full lives.”

In Alabama for 10 years before moving to Florida, Dr. Khoury originally followed advice from his father, a radiologist, about studying medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa, his native state, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a residency, and a fellowship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Khoury had been with Shriner’s for five years. He is board certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

“Children are fun to take care of because their motivations are pure,” said Dr. Khoury. “Kids want to get back to play and have fun.” Dr. Khoury is relocating to Lakeland with his wife and doodles Clark and Sarge. They have two children of college age. An avid outdoorsman, Khoury originally considered studying forestry. He looks forward to spending time exploring the natural beauty of the Lakeland area.
