Nemours Children’s Health Receives Over $100,000 from Congress to Support Pediatric Cancer Care
Funds will support health IT equipment purchases for the Nemours Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders
“Congressman Rutherford’s support will help Nemours Children’s provide the extraordinary clinical care experience and research for which we are known by outfitting our Center with critical IT equipment. Technology has made such significant impacts in the field of cancer care and is vital for helping clinicians find innovative solutions,” says Robert Bridges, Enterprise Executive Vice President and Chief Executive of Florida Operations.

Jacksonville, FL., March 14, 2022 – Nemours Children’s Health is set to receive $105,000 from the recently enacted Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations bill to support the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, a multistate pediatric oncology and hematology program - and the largest pediatric cancer program in Florida - that includes many convenient places for families to receive world-class care. Congressman John Rutherford (R-FL-4) secured Community Project Funding to support the creation of a Pediatric Cancer Center of Excellence at the Center in Jacksonville by covering health IT equipment costs. This expansion of the Center, a portion of which is supported through Community Project Funding, will provide a redesigned, state of the art cancer care center in Jacksonville, FL that keeps children in their community while they undergo treatment.

Prior to receiving the funds from Congress, Nemours Children’s launched its Hand in Hand campaign to raise funds for the build-out of the new Center, which is estimated to cost about $9.3 million. To date, the health system has raised $5.3 million.

“The thought of your child receiving a life-threatening health diagnosis is unimaginable,” said Rutherford. “When the unthinkable does happen, families know they can count on the incredible team at Nemours Children’s Health right here in Northeast Florida. I’m proud to advocate on behalf of Nemours during my work on the House Appropriations Committee, and I congratulate them on the work they do to transform lives every single day.”

Nemours Children’s is a HIMSS Stage 7 organization, which means it has optimized its electronic medical record and has the ability to leverage analytics, medical devices, cancer registries and health information exchanges to support our patients and clinicians. Effective use of technology is a key component of achieving better clinical outcomes, higher patient satisfaction and financial sustainability.
