Nemours Children’s Health System Welcomes Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist Dr. Rochelle Maxwell

Orlando, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2021) – Nemours Children’s Health System welcomes Rochelle Maxwell, MD, to the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Maxwell is among the pediatric specialists who will help with the clinical care of children with cancer and blood disorders. She is also interested in research focused on mitigating cancer treatment related toxicities and improving clinical outcomes in long-term survivors of pediatric cancer.

Dr. Maxwell, who earned her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and did her residency and fellowship at Albert Einstein – Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, has studied the long-term cognitive impacts of chemotherapy to try to find biomarkers and refine treatments.

“What drew me to Nemours Children’s Health is the capacity to help populations from five states in the enterprise system, and that makes for a robust foundation,” said Dr. Maxwell.

The area of hem/onc attracted Maxwell because of the relationships the care team can form as the patient improves. It is this pathway of survivorship where Maxwell feels she can contribute, coordinating the efforts across the enterprise.

The Survivorship Program at Nemours is designed to provide children and teens coming off treatment with wellness teaching and resources to help them stay well the rest of their lives.
