This designation reflects Nemours’ commitment to utilizing best practices in delivery of care, and to ongoing quality improvement,” said Thomas Lacy, MD, division chief for Nemours Primary Care and Urgent Care in Florida.
Orlando, Fla. (October 28, 2020) - Nemours Children’s Primary Care in Central Florida has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
“This designation reflects Nemours’ commitment to utilizing best practices in delivery of care, and to ongoing quality improvement,” said Thomas Lacy, MD, division chief for Nemours Primary Care and Urgent Care in Florida. This is an important milestone in the continuing growth and success of our health care system and of our primary care practice, he added.
The intent of accreditation is to adopt policies and procedures that further ongoing quality improvement and self-evaluation every day. More than 6,100 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are currently accredited by AAAHC.
Ambulatory health care organizations seeking AAAHC accreditation undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors, including physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory care. The survey is peer-based and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services. Status as an accredited organization means Nemours Children’s Primary Care has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC.
The Nemours Children’s Primary Care team, which served 49,561 patients across 18 Central Florida locations last year, began pursuing AAAHC accreditation in 2018, after becoming a Certified Patient Center Medical Home in 2017. This next step in Nemours Children’s Health System strategic direction shows its commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to patients and families, and the same high level of quality in business practices. Achieving AAAHC accreditation is proof positive that Nemours has met the rigorous standards of care and safety deemed necessary by a nationally recognized third party. Standards achieved include the advancement of continuous improvement initiatives, professional credentialing and consistent use of industry best practices.
