WILMINGTON, Delaware (Feb. 20, 2025) – Nemours Children’s Health has named Aaron Eckhauser, MD, MS, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Executive Director of the Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center in the Delaware Valley.
In his new role, Dr. Eckhauser will oversee the delivery of cardiothoracic surgical services and shape the Cardiac Center's strategic direction in the Delaware Valley. In addition, he will help develop a systemwide framework for cardiac care across the Nemours Children’s enterprise.

Dr. Eckhauser is an accomplished heart surgeon recognized for his expertise in pediatric aortic valve disease, pulmonary atresia and pediatric heart failure and transplantation. He previously served as Surgical Director of Quality Improvement at Primary Children’s Hospital and professor of surgery at the University of Utah. As a surgeon-scientist, he has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Eckhauser completed his fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Prior to that, he completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and his residency in surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky, a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Eckhauser is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American BOard of Thoracic Surgery. He is also a graduate of Harvard Medical School’s prestigious Surgical Leadership Program and was the recipient of the American College of Surgeons/Society of Thoracic Surgeons Health Policy Scholarship at Brandeis University.
