JACKSONVILLE, Florida (April 22, 2026) - Nemours Children’s Health today announced Walid A. Farhat, MD, FAAP, as Division Chief of Urology, and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery, for Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville.

Dr. Farhat is an internationally recognized pediatric urologist with more than two decades of experience advancing minimally invasive surgery, complex congenital urologic care, and outcomes‑driven pediatric urology. He has authored more than 260 peer‑reviewed publications, contributed to more than 25 book chapters, and co‑edited foundational texts in pediatric urology, bioengineering, and surgical innovation.

A primary focus of Dr. Farhat’s work has been the care of children with bowel and bladder dysfunction, where he helped establish standardized clinical assessment tools, multidisciplinary care pathways, and population‑level approaches to care. His research highlights the interaction between congenital urologic conditions, chronic symptoms, psychosocial factors, and long‑term quality of life—advancing a more integrated and family‑centered model of pediatric urology.

Dr. Farhat completed his medical education and urology residency at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon, and his pediatric urology fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, where he remained on faculty for nearly two decades. In 2019, he joined the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, serving as Chief of Pediatric Urology and Director of Global Urology, and as Professor in the Departments of Urology, Surgery, and Pediatrics.

He is board certified in urology with subspecialty certification in pediatric urology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Surgeons and has held a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree as well as numerous national leadership roles, including Society of Pediatric Urology (SPU) and President‑Elect of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists (AAPU). He has served as course chair and faculty for pediatric urology laparoscopy course (PULC) and training programs, helping train fellows and surgeons across North America and globally.
