
JACKSONVILLE, Florida (August 8, 2025) — Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville, today announced Eduardo Novais, MD, as the new chair of the Department of Orthopedics. A distinguished orthopedic surgeon who is renowned internationally, Dr. Novais has also been named the Nemours Endowed Chair for Advanced Orthopedics.
Dr. Novais will lead the orthopedic and sports medicine department at Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville and provide surgical services at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. As part of his enterprise role at Nemours Children’s, Dr. Novais will further expand clinical strengths, translate research into practical care, and unite resources across the Nemours Children’s enterprise to foster collaboration in pediatric orthopedic care and education.
Joining Nemours Children’s from the Child and Young Adult Hip Preservation Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Novais brings a strong blend of surgical skill, research excellence, and leadership in caring for children and adolescents—qualities that align well with the Nemours commitment to Whole Child Health.

Dr. Novais earned his medical degree at Brazil’s Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has completed fellowships at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Boston Children’s Hospital. He has also published more than 130 peer-reviewed publications in the field of hip preservation surgery and has co-edited a book titled “Hip Preservation Surgery in Children and Adolescents.”
