“The overwhelming majority of sickle cell patients presenting to the ED with pain episodes have what we call an uncomplicated pain episode,” Gwarzo, a research scientist at Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, Delaware, told Healio. “It has been theorized that for these patients, hospital admission will not be needed if their pain is controlled adequately and promptly.”

Ibrahim Gwarzo, Dr.P.H., M.B.B.S., from Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, Delaware, and colleagues examined whether timely administration of opioids (within 60 minutes) in the emergency department is associated with hospitalization for sickle cell disease (SCD) pain. The analysis included 2,538 children (younger than 19 years) seen at 12 children’s hospitals with comprehensive SCD centers (9,233 emergency visits from 2019 through 2021).
At the same time, if a child is experiencing anxiety around the return to school, it can make getting sleep more difficult. “A child may have nightmares or trouble sleeping, especially falling asleep,” Leah Orchinik, formerly a pediatric psychologist at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, told HuffPost.
Josh Hines-Allen had three sacks in the 2023 meeting between Carolina and Jacksonville. He needs 2 ½ sacks to break the franchise record (55) set by Tony Brackens in 2003. Hines-Allen has 53 sacks over seven seasons, including 17 ½ in 2023. He finished with eight last season and missed the season finale while dealing with his son’s cancer diagnosis. "Wesley is now in remission and celebrated the end of treatment with a bell-ringing ceremony on Tuesday, August 26, at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville. "They have people that can help support them and give them love. And again, my foundation is just to show support. We're contributing to four different organizations throughout the year, so each month is going to be different. An organization that we're targeting to help spread more awareness for them and for us as well. So, I'm excited about that journey and this first month is Nemours and then we'll start adding on when the season goes on.”

Spine robots have made significant advancements, and in recent months three hospitals began offering the technology for pediatric patients. Dr. Shah, who has used Velys at Nemours Children’s Hospital, said he’s used the robot for placing instruments, intraoperative guidance and screw placement.
Orlando (Fla.) Health and Jacksonville, Fla.-based Nemours Children’s Health donated financial support for the new facility, the UCF news release said.
