WILMINGTON, DEL– Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware has been awarded the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Center of Excellence’s Gold Level Award for 2022. This award recognizes extracorporeal life support (ECLS) programs worldwide that promote exceptional care in patient extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, a process where blood is pumped outside the body to a heart-lung machine, filtered, and sent back into the body during critical care situations.
This award touches many parts of Nemours Children’s including patients in the cardiac center, newborn intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), nursing, respiratory therapy, and surgical services. Nemours is one of 55 children’s hospitals to earn this prestigious recognition.
“This award is a reflection of the team’s extraordinary dedication to providing high-quality, state-of-the-art care to our critically ill patients,” said Jane Mericle, DNP, MHS-CL, BSN, RN, CENP, Executive Vice President, Chief Nursing Executive and Patient Operations Officer, Nemours Children’s Health, Delaware Valley. “We are humbled to receive this recognition and remain committed to providing exceptional patient care that is well beyond medicine.”
ELSO recognizes ECLS programs that reach the highest level of performance, innovation, satisfaction, and quality. By earning this award, Nemours demonstrated excellence in patient care, training, education, collaboration, and communication, and promoting ELSO’s mission, vision, and activities.
