Nemours Children’s Health Announces David C. Brousseau, MD, MS as Incoming Chair of Pediatrics

WILMINGTON, DEL. – Nemours Children’s Health announced today that David C. Brousseau, MD, MS, will join the organization in March 2023 as Chair of Pediatrics at Nemours Children’s and at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Brousseau will serve as the physician leader for excellence across all academic pillars including clinical care, educating the next generation of physicians, and advancing the scholarship and research program growth to improve children’s health.

Working with the Delaware Valley leadership team, he will also set the strategic direction to promote clinical growth and partnerships across the Delaware Valley. In addition, Dr. Brousseau will collaborate across departments and with hospital leadership to facilitate continuous improvement in quality and safety with a focus on outcomes.

He has a strong track record of mentoring and developing his faculty which continues to be a major focus at Nemours.”

Prior to joining Nemours Children’s, Dr. Brousseau was Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children’s Wisconsin. He also served as Vice Chair of Finance and Clinical Operations for the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Brousseau was the Founding Director of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s MD/MS Dual Degree Program and Assistant Dean for Scholarly Activities. In addition, he served as a Patient Centered Research Unit Leader for the Children’s Research Institute at Children’s Wisconsin.  

Dr. Brousseau is board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His primary research focus is on sickle cell disease, including health services research, implementation science and clinical trials aimed at improving the disparate care these children receive. He has been continuously federally funded for more than 15 years and has mentored multiple fellows and junior faculty to federal funding. Dr. Brousseau has been the recipient of many professional awards including Best Doctors in America every year since 2009. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Ambulatory Pediatric Association, American Society of Hematology, and a standing member of an NIH study section. He also serves as a reviewer for more than a dozen prestigious journals including JAMA, Pediatrics, Academic Pediatrics, and Annals of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Brousseau received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Virginia and his Master of Science from Brown University. He also completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard University, Harvard’s alternative to an executive MBA.
