Nemours Childrens Specialty Care Announces New Facility on West Florida Hospital Campus

On Thursday, November 9, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care released plans for its new facility that will be located on the campus of West Florida Hospital. Construction began on November 1 with a targeted completion date set for June 2018.

For nearly 20 years, the nationally ranked pediatric experts from Nemours in Pensacola have treated the most complex childhood conditions – and they are continuing their commitment to children in the region.

The newly renovated facility will include 58 exam rooms, spanning 33,000 square feet, with key features and significant diagnostic capabilities. It will also feature excellence programs including pediatric orthopedics, diabetes education, cystic fibrosis treatment, accredited pediatric echocardiogram and fetal lab, and a certified oncology program.

"We look forward to this new chapter in our history in Northwest Florida and the opportunity to create a brand new child- and family-friendly space in which to care for our patients," said Dr. Mary Mehta, Chief Medical Officer, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care. "At Nemours, we only care for children. In the new year we will have a new address, but our dedication to the children of this region is as strong as ever."

"We are pleased to welcome the employees and physicians of Nemours Children’s Specialty Service to the campus of West Florida Healthcare. The opportunity to collaborate with Nemours is an extension of our mission, which is above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. While Nemours surgeons, including orthopedics and ENT, have already started doing surgeries at West Florida Hospital, having their offices physically located on our campus will further enhance the services we are able to provide families who choose West Florida Hospital for their children’s care," said Carlton Ulmer, President and Chief Executive Officer, West Florida Healthcare.

All existing Nemours divisions will move to the new space. Specialized equipment for specific divisions will be used in dedicated space for seeing patients in the divisions of Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, and Otolaryngology (ENT). Additional, flexible space will be available for the divisions of Audiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Urology. These universal rooms will create an efficient workflow to the benefit of families.

Pensacola-based Hanto & Clarke General Contractors, LLC has been selected as the general contractor for the project. Demolition in the existing space began on November 6.

The announcement is addition to the recent news that Nemours has welcomed five new pediatric providers in the divisions of Hematology/Oncology, Urology and Orthopedics.
