It is with great pleasure that we welcome orthopedic surgeon Jason Howard, MD, to the Division of Cerebral Palsy at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Dr. Howard received his medical training in Canada at Memorial University and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Calgary. Dr. Howard then moved to Australia to pursue sub-specialty fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. He is board certified by the Royal College of physicians and surgeons of Canada and board eligible with the American Board of orthopedic surgery.
Prior to joining Nemours Dr. Howard spent five and a half years as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery in Qatar, at Sidra Medicine, a new academic women and children's hospital affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine. There, he developed the orthopedic and rehabilitation programs, positioning the hospital as the foremost referral center for pediatric orthopedics in the region.
Previously, Dr. Howard was a full-time assistant professor of surgery in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada) and a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH). During his time at the ACH, Dr. Howard was also the Clinical Director of the C.H. Riddell Family Movement Assessment Centre (Clinical Gait Laboratory). He subsequently was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada) and practiced at the IWK Health Centre from 2009 to early 2014.
In addition to his medical training, Dr. Howard also holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and graduate studies in Biodesign at Stanford University, focusing on the development of new medical technologies.

Dr. Howard is a global thought leader in cerebral palsy and has focused his research on spastic muscle pathophysiology and hip displacement in CP. While treating patients with CP will be his primary focus at Nemours, Dr. Howard will also dedicate his time to patients with other neuromuscular conditions such as muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, and spina bifida.
